Consequence Analysis

Knowing how far a release travels, how hot a fire burns and how far an explosion's overpressure reaches is what makes layout, siting and emergency planning decisions defensible. Cerasus models the physical consequences of loss-of-containment events for the plants in Qatar's climate and terrain.

What it means

Consequence Analysis, explained.

Consequence analysis models the source term (release rate and phase), dispersion (toxic and flammable clouds), fires (jet, pool, flash, fireball/BLEVE) and explosions (vapour-cloud overpressure), and maps the results as hazard footprints at defined thresholds — for example 4.7 kW/m² thermal radiation or 0.07 bar overpressure.

Results feed facility siting, occupied-building assessments, hazardous-area classification checks, flare radiation checks, emergency response plans and QRA.

What Cerasus provides

Scope of service

Source-term & dispersion modelling

Continuous and instantaneous releases; dense and buoyant gas dispersion for site-specific weather classes.

Fire modelling

Jet, pool and flash fires; BLEVE / fireball; thermal radiation contours.

Explosion modelling

Vapour-cloud explosion overpressure (TNT, TNO Multi-Energy, BST).

Facility siting & occupied buildings

API RP 752/753/756 assessments for control rooms, workshops and portable buildings.

Flare & vent radiation

API 521 radiation and dispersion checks for flare and cold-vent design.

Emergency planning input

Hazard footprints and escape-route checks for ERP and muster-point review.

How we do it

Our approach, step by step

Scenario set

Select representative loss-of-containment cases from PHA and hole-size rules.

Model

Source term, dispersion, fire and explosion for site weather and terrain.

Map

Plot contours on plot plan; identify impacted buildings and equipment.

Recommend

Siting, layout, protection and ERP recommendations with priorities.
